Frequently Asked Questions*

*Please refer to Film Policy & Procedures and Film Permit documents for more information.

Pre-Application Meeting:

As part of the permit process, the Village requires a Pre-Application meeting. This should answer the bulk of your questions as we review:

  • Zoning - commercial vs. residential for hours of production (for properties zoned SU-1 or SU Permits in particular)

  • Special Exemptions (nighttime filming, excessive noise, etc.)

  • Public Notice Boundary

  • Notification Letter

  • Village Barricade Permit

We encourage you to schedule a Pre-Application meeting with Village Staff well in advance of filming. In addition, incomplete applications will not be accepted and permit application approval may take five to ten working days. There is no rush permit process.

The zone of the property will affect allowed hours of production. The Village Zone Map is viewable here. The Planning & Zoning Department can also identify the zoning (505-344-6582).

Public Notice:

Public notice is the term we use for the flyers given to surrounding properties. The process you use to notify them is the same, we just have a specific template to fill out.

Some agreements in the application require notarization. The Village has three notaries at Village Hall to notarize signatures when you submit your permit.

Neighborhood Covenants:

Neighborhood covenants may exist for some residential properties. The Village does not enforce neighborhood covenants and does not take responsibility for information on or enforcement of neighborhood covenants. It is the responsibility of the applicant to identify any neighborhood covenants and ensure their activities comply with any neighborhood covenants.

It is the sole responsibility of the production company to notify the Village and any law enforcement or emergency services departments. There is no form required to cancel. Cancellation of an approved permit will be refunded, prorated for the remaining days the permit is approved for. It is the production company’s responsibility to confirm receipt and approval of a cancellation request.
