First Responders 5K Run/Walk Community Event

Sunday, October 23, 2016

Please join us on Sunday, October 23, for a community-wide event that is intended to turn the tragic events of October 26, 2013, into a day of remembrance and perseverance.  It will also be an opportunity to welcome community support and foster community relations between first responders and the communities they serve.  Help us build community ties.  Register today for this inaugural 5k run/walk.  All proceeds from this event will benefit the Ten-82 fund, which assists fallen first responders and their families to cover expenses not covered by insurance or the department. The police radio call "10-82," means, "Officer needs help.”  For more information on the 10-82 Fund, visit

On Saturday, October 26, 2013, three Albuquerque police officers were shot as well as Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Deputy Robin Hopkins. Hopkins sustained severe injuries during the incident when she was shot in front of the Los Ranchos / Bernalillo County Fire Station #30 on Fourth Street. Emergency responders rushed her to University of New Mexico Hospital where she immediately underwent two surgeries. She is currently on the long and tough journey towards recovery.

“Deputy Hopkins patrolled the Los Ranchos area diligently and often stopped in Village Hall making sure residents were safe and secure,” said Los Ranchos Mayor Larry Abraham. “We want her to know she can depend on her community’s support and we are dedicated to helping her anyway we can.  I invite residents of Los Ranchos and the surrounding communities to this event to show their support for Robin and all of the incredible first responders that we rely on so heavily.”
