The Village of Los Ranchos developed the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) following a public meeting at the Agri-Nature Center on September 8, 2022.  In that meeting, the public called for more citizen participation and a reexamination of housing density issues in the C1 and VC Zones, as well as a review of the Pilot Conservation Ordinance.  Mayor Lopez responded by appointing the following to the Citizens Advisory Committee:

Given interest in the CAC and in an effort to be more transparent, the Village will be advertising the meetings on the Village website and will post meeting dates at Village Hall.   The meetings will occur every two weeks, Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at Village Hall, 6718 Rio Grande Blvd., NW, Los Ranchos, NM 87107 unless otherwise noted on the website and posting locations.  The public is welcome to sit in on the meetings but will only be allowed to comment during Public Comment Period.  Anyone wishing to participate is encouraged to sign up prior to the meeting and/or submit written comments to info@losranchosnm.gov.  Comments received by close of business the Tuesday before the meeting will be distributed to all committee members. 

C-1 Zone

The first task of the CAC was to address high density housing in the C1 Zone.  The CAC presented its recommendations to the Planning and Zoning Commission on February 14, 2023. The proposed text amendments were advertised at the March 8, 2023, Board of Trustees meeting, and adopted at the April 12, 2023 meeting. Ordinance No. 294, C-1 Amendment, can be viewed here.

Ordinance No. 284: Conservation Development Pilot Projects

Following several CAC meetings centered on potential edits to the Conservation Development Ordinance, the Village held a public meeting on May 4, 2023 at Village Hall from 5:30-7:30 pm to solicit public input. In the months following the meeting, the Committee worked to develop proposed changes to the ordinance based on the public input received at the public meeting and on the input of various stakeholders including residents and developers. Proposed changes to the ordinance will be presented to the public on November 15, 2023 at Village Hall from 5:30-7:30.
